On 23 March 2016 Pakistan Forum was involved with Salaam Shalom Kitchen to provide food to some of the city’s poorest and most vulnerable people. Meals were organised and served by the members of the Pakistan Forum executive committee who said that they were humbled and overwhelmed by the experience.

Salaam Shalom, based at Hyson Green’s Bridge Centre on Gregory Boulevard is a weekly drop in Kitchen organised by The Nottingham Liberal Synagogue and not-for-profit Muslim organisation Himmah. Its aim is to build bridges between communities, particularly Muslim and Jewish communities in the UK.

Chairman of Pakistan Forum, Qammar Zamman, applauded the founding organisation for their vision and said that we share common values of breaking down cultural and religious barriers through engagement with different communities. With the rise in Islamophobia and antisemitism, it is vital to demonstrate our ability to work together to lift the veil of prejudice that divides communities; and what better way to do this than by sharing a platform that  gives hope to vulnerable people in our society.

Following this Pakistan Forum has made a commitment to be more involved with Salaam Shalom in the future and will have a regular spot on the Kitchen’s rota. Next meal will be served by the Forum in July after Eid.
